Struggle is not the Key for Success

“CEO”, “Vice President”, “Country Head”, “Branch Manager”,  “Sales Manager” and many more…What are all these?
Yes, you guessed it right. These are LABELS / TITLES which one gets as per their expertise, skill set and experience. Either we have it or aspire to have them, initially we start living for them and later our life gets controlled by them.
Once we attain one of the titles, we crave for the next one. We extend our office hours, ignore our personal life, compromise on our self-image and can even do something unethical to harass our juniors or leave our colleagues behind.
Suppose, a person is working for a large corporation as “Regional Manager” and next LABEL he is struggling for would be “National Manager”. For that, he would work really hard, push his competitors away, please his boss, ignore his family and health and after 2-3 years of back breaking work, he may get the new LABEL of “National Manager”.
Now what? He is going to celebrate and be happy with the new “LABEL” for how many days, 7 / 15 / 30 days or even little more. And after that he will crave for the next LABEL, may be “Assistant Vice President”. Also during these 2-3 years of struggle, he would have lost his peace of mind, filled his mind and heart with so many negative thoughts & feelings. He may also have ruined his relationships with his spouse, kids, colleagues and juniors.
But this doesn’t really mean that we should become content and live a mediocre life. Life is all about expansion, growth and success but no SUCCESS should be given value higher than mental health, physical health and relationships.
The best way for getting success in any aspect of life – Work, Good Health (mental & physical) and Soothing Relationships etc. is to maintain a balance between everything and reduce your stress at work (as one spend major part of their day in office only). You may try these points to overcome stress to a certain extent:
  • Try to extend your deadlines:  Stop being a part of some rat race. If you can give some more time to yourself to achieve your target, the pressure would be less. With less pressure and out of rat race, chances are less that you do things the other way. I can understand that few deadlines cannot be ignored or extended but your personal career targets can be modified.
  • Time Management: Stay organized, focused and manage your time appropriately. Always make a “To-Do List” so that you don’t need to overlook things you need to do. Prioritize your work and don’t allow yourself to be distracted by unimportant things.
  • Spend quality time with your family: Your sweet family can act as a true stress buster. Go for some outings, play with your kids or just relax at home with your favourite music. Spending good time with family on weekends can rejuvenate you for your battle on weekdays.
  • Do Yoga and Meditation: Yoga and meditation can change the way you look the world, which in turn can lower the stress and relax yourself and energize you for your day to day struggle.
  • Do spontaneous activities: Walking in rain, Sketching, Painting, Poetry, Photography or anything that can give you some time to meet your inner self.
Instead of struggling for any “LABEL”, start enjoying the journey towards that “LABEL“ of your choice with everyone. This way you can have the feeling of actually achieving it and not losing something on the way to success. Only such a situation can be termed as “WIN-WIN” situation for yourself.
And as our Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar says, “I always had a dream to play for India but I never let it put pressure on me.”
When you are at peace with yourself, you will deliver your best, ALWAYS!!

P.S. Please feel free to share if you know some one who live for "LABELS" or your opinion on how justified it is to lose something while struggling for Success.
We look forward to your feedback and comment on this write-up.
